JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND NEORIS INITIATE WORLDWIDE JOB SHADOW PROGRAM IN THE GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK

Jan 05, 2012

Colorado Springs, Colo. — Today JA Worldwide (Junior Achievement) announced that it has partnered with Neoris, a global business and IT consulting company, to implement its JA Job Shadow® program in seven countries simultaneously.

In 10 cities across seven countries, more than 50 volunteers will share their work-day with approximately 60 students involved in JA Job Shadow. The students will be participating from the Americas Region and Europe. JA Job Shadow meets the needs of a diverse group of high school students by providing engaging, academically enriching, and experiential-learning sessions in work-readiness education and career perspectives.

“Junior Achievement is thrilled to be collaborating with Neoris on this important initiative,” said Sean C. Rush, president and CEO of JA Worldwide. “We are so excited that the students will have the opportunity to experience the world of work firsthand. They can understand what is involved in landing a job and what skills they need to best represent themselves.”

This year, for the second time, the program took a global dimension with the involvement of Neoris offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico and the United States, and it is launched during the Global Entrepreneurship Week. The Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

JA Job Shadow is a three-session course, plus a site visit, designed for high school students. All JA programs are designed to support the skills and competencies identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. These programs also augment school-based, work-based, and connecting activities for communities with school-to-work initiatives.

The JA Job Shadow is a valuable learning tool for students because it combines practical applications in real-world situations with principals learned in the classroom. It teaches students to analyze and interpret information, to write resumes and learn how to interview and to work on public speaking as well as their written communication skills. Through one-day, on-site orientations or through more extensive internships, students have the opportunity to get real, hands-on work experience to supplement what they learn about in the classroom.
