Global Entrepreneurship Week / Denmark
Week 47 will see the launch of the largest ever initiative aimed at promoting growth and entrepreneurship in Denmark. In partnership with a number of private and public organisations and institutions, the Danish vice Prime Ministerof Economic and Business Affairs Lene Espersen will spearhead the campaign “Start a Business – Promote Growth”.
The campaign will comprise more than 100 events designed for people who want to start their own business or are looking for ways of growing an existing business. It will bring Denmark closer to the Government’s ambitious aim to ensure that Denmark ranks among the most enterprising societies in the world.
Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economic and Business Affairs, Lene Espersen, comments:
“As minister of Economic and Business Affairs I am proud to be hosting Global Entrepreneurship Week in Denmark. I see Global Entrepreneurship Week as a great opportunity to spread the message globally that innovative and entrepreneurial ideas are key instruments in addressing some of the challenges of today. I believe that this is a message of great importance.
Since 2001 the Danish government has implemented many programmes and initiatives on entrepreneurship. With this campaign we are taking the entrepreneurship agenda to the next level. We will ask all key players, institutions and organisations in Denmark to commit to a joint effort to strengthen Danish entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Week 47 will offer more than 100 advisory sessions, idea competitions, workshops and presentations across Denmark. These events are designed to appeal to a wide audience - from executives with growth ambitions to inventors in schools and students attracted to the idea of becoming entrepreneurs.

Facts: Why do we need entrepreneurs?
Entrepreneurs are important for the economy - particularly at a time of turbulence in global financial markets - because they create jobs and stimulate economic growth. As a nation, Denmark has a proven record for transforming knowledge and ideas into viable businesses. Nevertheless, if our businesses are to compete successfully in the ever tougher globalised markets, we must be among the best in the world. And this demands that we have a core of entrepreneurs with the best possible conditions for real growth.
Over the past few years, the Government has launched a number of initiatives aimed at improving conditions for people with ambitions to start their own business or make their existing business more successful. If Denmark is to be a leading enterprise nation, everything must be done to encourage this. This is why, in week 47, the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs is convening a broad cross-section of Danish society to promote enterprise in Denmark.
Week 47 - Highlights:
17.11: Summit in Copenhagen on "Roles and Responsibilities on Denmark's Road towards Becoming a LeadingEnterprise Nation"
17.11: Publication of Enterprise Index
17.11: Publication of an agreement under which large Danish companies commit to assist aspiring entrepreneurs.
19.11: Conference on female entrepreneurs.
20.11: Entrepreneurship on the timetable. Enterprising pupils compete on innovation. Award for Denmark's best teacher in the field of enterprise.
20.11: Advisers conference. Minister Lene Espersen launches a charter for a stronger entrepreneurial partnership between public and private organisations

The Government Platform, Society of Opportunities, from Nov. 2007 states that all young people at the Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) must be offered education/teaching in entrepreneurship.
In order to fulfil the Government goal, a working group has been established with representatives from the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture. The purpose of the working group is to develop a new strategy for the implementation of entrepreneurship and innovation in the educational system in Denmark. The work is carried out in close cooperation with relevant parties, organisations and educational institutions.
The new strategy plan to increase the number of entrepreneurship courses and activities targeted pupils, students and teachers and educators at all educational levels in Denmark – and particular at the HEI. The vision for the strategy is to develop a long-term and coordinated organisation of entrepreneurship education.
Additionally, the strategy will consider the need to ensure a greater link between research institutions, educational institutions and private companies in order to develop among other things new teaching methods that train and strengthen pupils’ and students’ innovative competencies.
The strategy will build on experiences from existing initiatives in Denmark as well as from foreign experiences of entrepreneurship education.
