Jordan hosts international entrepreneurs and more during GEW

The Week in Jordan kicked off with an impressive list of entrepreneurs, including Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIN and Joi Ito of Creative Commons. More than 300 people attended the launch in Amman, which also featured short talks about leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation from a total of 13 speakers, 5 international guests and 7 Jordanian business leaders.

Catherine Halaby, who works with the Endeavor office that hosted the Week in Jordan, said the evening was very well-received, with one audience member describing it as “therapy for Jordan."

The launch was just one 7 events held in conjunction with GEW, including two days of school sessions run by QRCE, a panel discussion on women entrepreneurs featuring Endeavor entrepreneur Dr. Widad Akrouk of Al-Masar, and a marketplace in one of the malls. In all, GEW reached an estimated 1,000 individuals, not counting the many school children who participated. This reach was even larger when accounting for media. Halaby said that between the radio broadcasts promoting the various events (spread over 10 days, in prime commute hours) and the press release placed on Maktoob, the Week, in theory,  reached all of Amman.

In addition to the official events, while Reid and the other international guests were in town the Host arranged meetings with several Jordanian entrepreneurial ventures.
