GEW/UK Reaches Out to the World

Brenden Chaney @brendenchaney

United Kingdom

Nov 08, 2012

It is less than one week until the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s number one campaign to support and encourage entrepreneurs.

Across the globe the GEW campaign continues to generate huge excitement, even President Obama has thrown his support behind it, and we know he is quite busy at the moment.

This year’s campaign in the United Kingdom (GEWUK) which is hosted by Youth Business International, has smashed its target number of events 2,500, a truly fantastic achievement in the current economic climate.

The campaign, which began life as Enterprise Week in the UK, has grown over the  years into truly global event which in 2011 reached 120+ countries and engaged more than seven million people. This year is shaping up the be the most exciting GEW ever, and Youth Business International members are once again taking a leading role.

YBI has a long association with the GEW campaign, with members of our global network acting as official hosts over 10 countries around the world: Barbados, Belize, Bhutan, Canada, Dominica, India, Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago Ukraine and Uganda.

YBI members play a big role in the global GEW community and have a fantastic track record of providing interesting and innovative campaigns to promote and raise awareness about entrepreneurship as a potential career.

This year, YBI members have been working together to produce  a film showcasing the support that we offer to young entrepreneurs around the world. Our global network supports one entrepreneur every hour, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year.

When one YBI supported entrepreneur is going to bed or locking up their shop, another is just waking up ready make the most of another day.  When an African entrepreneur is making a sale at the end of a long day, another young business person in South America is just starting his working week.

Take a look at our new film, filled with contributions from our members around the world, to see just how global our network really is.

The campaign couldn’t be simpler. If you are an entrepreneur whose business got started with the support of a member of YBI then we want to hear from you.

All you need to do is record a short clip of you at you place of work going about your usual routine. This can mean opening your shop first thing in the morning, meeting with a client in the afternoon or making a sale at the end of the day, we want to see your business from your perspective.

Then all you need to do is post a very short film (from a mobile phone etc.) onto your Facebook profile and tag it to the Facebook page of the YBI members that supported you. We’ll then create an array of short clips from around the world on the YBI Facebook page.

On Twitter? Then just upload your short vid with the hash tag #YBI247

We’ll publish the results throughout the GEW and will create an activity map at the end of the week.

Later this week we will upload a few early films to give you an idea of what we are looking for.

Let’s show that YBI really is “around the world, around the clock!”
