Mads Løntoft and Peter Hertz travelled from Denmark to San Jose, California with one goal in mind -- to win the Global Cleantech Open Ideas Competition.

The pair were successful, having been selected by an audience of investors and experts for their presentation of Abeo A/S.

Abeo A/S was founded in June 2010 to commercialize the patented building technology Super-Light Structures which was invented by Kristian Hertz, Professor at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The invention was first published in the renowned “Magazine of Concrete Research” in October 2009, after which it has received widespread interest from the media as well as leading players in the building industry. Abeo’s goal is to make Super-Light Structures the first and natural choice for developers and contractors as well as engineers and architects. This ambition is expressed through the firm's name 'Abeo', which originates from Latin and is the equivalent for change.

The firm was just highlighted in a story on VentureBeat which quickly identified the appeal of Abeo's super-light structures: 

"So what’s all the fuss about? Abeo is licensing a new method of constructing concrete buildings which can reduce cost and Co2 emissions by up to 50 percent."

With national finalists from 20 countries, the Top 5 entries were screened at the Cleantech Open Gala Awards for the public vote. The Top 5 screened were:

• Perlemax (United Kingdom)
• Abeo A/S (Denmark)
• Soft4Energy (France)
